COVID-19 RESPONSE

Updates and FAQ

Updated June 27, 2020

Hi friend,

We trust you are doing well and staying safe.

We LOVE camp. Summer camping is a highlight for all of us at Young Life and RockRidge Canyon. Young Life Camping is a pillar of what we do and each summer thousands of teens, leaders, property staff, A-teams, interns, summer staff, work crew and adult guests look forward to their summer camp experience.

With a great sense of sadness, Young Life announced their decision to suspend the national summer camping program and move to a region-based summer strategy. We are inviting our staff, volunteers and committee members to work together to explore creative opportunities to reach out to teens, tell them about Jesus, and have fun – in smaller groups, closer to home.

If you or your teen, or your family, were signed up to come to camp this summer, please watch for an email from us about the process to refund your registration fee. If you were scheduled to serve with us at camp this summer, you can expect to hear from our team here at RockRidge Canyon directly.

Frequently Answered Questions

Are the staff OK?

We are happy to report that currently all RockRidge Canyon staff are healthy.

Is Young Life Summer 2020 happening?

As of May 19, we have clear direction that overnight summer camping is not endorsed by the Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia governments and provincial camping associations. These restrictions and continued direction from our health officials to maintain physical distancing measures in all aspects of life, make it extremely difficult for summer camping as we know it. Young Life has made the decision to suspend our national summer camping program and move to a region-based, local summer events. Please stay in contact with your Young Life leaders for some fun and creative local initiatives.

What is RockRidge Canyon’s policy about Young Life Summer Camp refunds?

YL Summer Camp Registrants will receive an email with refund instructions.

What does this mean for RockRidge Canyon?

RockRidge Canyon staff are identifying ways we can pivot and offer the assets of RockRidge Canyon, while following provincial guidelines for food services, housekeeping and recreation, group size gathering restrictions and sustaining financial viability.

Family Retreats

RockRidge Canyon will be hosting family style retreats throughout August, where families travel to RockRidge Canyon, stay together, eat together and have fun on the property together.

What is happening with the Young Life Family Camp?

Unfortunately Young Life Family Camp, scheduled for July 5-10 has been cancelled. Family Camp registrants will be contacted shortly about refunds, BUT we are offering a family style retreat where families could still come to RockRidge Canyon and enjoy the summer playing together as a family, without Young Life entertainment and programs.

NEW Family Retreats – August 2020

Is the RockRidge Canyon Store open?

The Ridge Trading Co. is bursting at the seams with new swag and sweatshirts and more, so we are bringing the store to you!

We have launched a RockRidge Canyon Online Store and encourage you to share it with everyone – your teenage friends, leaders, committee and Young Life friends who want to bring a little bit of camp home. Btw, camp gear makes for great gifts. eGift cards are also available!

Are you hosting retreats and groups?

RockRidge Canyon is currently not hosting guest groups. There are staff on site, appropriately physically distancing, working on maintenance projects and preparing for future hosting in August and into the Fall.

Are you cancelling retreats?

At this point we continue to monitor the situation, communicate with guest group organizers and post updates on our website. Retreats may look different in this new reality.

If your group has a retreat booked July – August please contact your guest group organizer regarding your retreat’s status.

Are you booking future retreats?

Yes. Hoping for the best and planning for the future, we are currently maintaining current bookings and taking new bookings through 2022.

Can I support RockRidge Canyon at this time?

Yes! Now more than ever, with the sharp cessation of guest group income, we rely on the generous contributions of our donor friends to operate. Please feel free to give to the Operations Fund here.

We covet your support and your prayers and we are trusting that God has a purpose and a plan through this challenging season.

Is RockRidge Canyon still open?

While we are not currently hosting guest groups, or open to visitors, there are staff on site. The office is available by phone and email.

What does this mean for RockRidge Canyon?

RockRidge Canyon staff are identifying ways we can pivot and offer the assets of RockRidge Canyon, while following provincial guidelines for food services, housekeeping and recreation, group size gathering restrictions and sustaining financial viability. A strong possibility for RockRidge Canyon this summer is family style retreats, where families travel to RRC, stay together, eat together and have fun on the property together. If BC lifts or amends the group gathering size before August, we could potentially offer some version of regional camping (think New Year’s Camp).

Family Camp registrants will be contacted shortly about refunds, BUT we are holding onto some hope we could offer a family style retreat where families could still come to RockRidge Canyon and enjoy the summer playing together as a family. Please stay tuned for more information as we shift and see what the opportunities are.
